Opelika, Ala.--He didn't enter his senior season with much fanfare, but he finished it with plenty.

Montavian Collier showed no ill effects of two years away from football as he put together an impressive season for Coach Spence McCracken's Opelika Bulldog.

The buzz on the college coaching recruit circuit that there was a big-time player at Opelika High who was making the transition from basketball last fall. The 6-2, 215-pounder with 4.49 speed quickly proved he could be a force on the gridiron and attracted plenty of attention from college coaches before choosing the Tigers over FSU and Georgia.

Collier had 74 tackles with four interceptions as a senior and is currently averaging 14 points for an Opelika High basketball team that could make a strong run in the Class 6A playoffs. Collier says the opportunity to play close to home was one of the main reasons he picked the Tigers.

Coach Spence McCracken says that the Tigers are getting a talented athlete who has plenty of potential as a collegian.
