Auburn looks to extend its winning streak vs. Alabama in women's basketball.

Auburn, Ala.--The slumping Auburn women’s basketball team will try to continue its dominance against in-state rival Alabama as the Tigers travel to Coleman Coliseum for an SEC game on Sunday.

Tipoff time for the contest is 2 p.m. CST as Auburn looks to take a ninth straight victory vs. the Tide in the series. However, Coach Nell Fortner’s team has lost five of its last six games and is 12-11 overall and 3-7 in the SEC this season.

Alabama, which is 9-14 overall, has just one victory in 10 SEC games. One of the losses was a 74-62 decision at Auburn last month as junior guard Alli Smalley led the Tigers with 27 points. She leads the Tigers in scoring with an average of 15.5 points per contest.

The game will be televised on Fox SportsSouth as Alabama tries to break a four-game losing streak.

Alli Smalley is a key player for the Tigers.

Fortner’s Tigers are just 3-7 in road games this year and are 1-4 in conference road tests. The Tigers lost 61-58 at home to South Carolina in their last outing on Thursday night.

“It is going to be a tough game in a tough environment,” Fortner says. “Hopefully, we can get back on track in this conference.”

She notes that in the first game vs. Alabama this season, a contest in which Auburn jumped out to a big early lead, the margin tightened in the second half.

“It was a close game here at Auburn and we expect another hard-fought game between these two teams,” Fortner says. “We just had two great practices, two good, very competitive practices and I think we are ready to play.

“We gave up a lot of easy shots to Alabama and they shot the ball well,” says Fortner. “We have to make sure they don’t get good looks at the basket. We also gave up way too many second-chance opportunities and we have to take care of the boards better.”

Keke Carrier is Auburn’s top rebounder at 7.7 per game and the senior center is averaging 15.5 points per contest.

Tierney Jenkins is the Tide’s top performer with averages of 12.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
