Linebacker Prospect Visits AU's Campus
Decatur, Ga.--Demarcus Sherod, currently a junior at Columbia High School, visited Auburn over the weekend with his father to check out Coach Gene Chizik's football program and he says that he left impressed. "I toured the campus and met the coaches and other people," he says. "It was my first visit to Auburn and I?thought it was great." A 6-1 225-pound linebacker, Sherod says that he plays in the middle of Columbia's 3-5 defensive front. He earned All-County and All-Metro honors as a junior. "I think had 110 tackles, with 22 tackles for losses, four sacks and six forced fumbles," he says. Sherod says that he is still looking for his first scholarship offer, but notes that he is hearing from colleges such as Oregon, Oklahoma and Tennessee. "I am getting a lot of calls and letters," he says. He notes that after spending the day in Auburn he really likes what he saw. "Right now, they are number one," he says. Sherod, who says his athletic focus is totally on football, says he is still growing. "I am trying to get to six-foot-two or six-foot-three," he says. In addition to touring the Auburn campus on his visit, Sherod says he got an opportunity to talk with the head coach and says that went well. He also met with defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Ted Roof. "I really like the Auburn coaches," he says.
