Big Lineman Plans to Camp at Auburn
Phenix City, Ala.--A rising senior prospect whose stock has been on the rise hopes that trend continues when he visits Auburn for its one-day football camp on Saturday. Rakeem Nunez, a 6-3 1/2, 285-pound defensive tackle from Central High School, visited Auburn thisspring for The Big Cat Weekend which featured specially invited recruits from across the state of Alabama and the southeast. Since making that trip to Auburn, the lineman has stayed busy. "I have being going to the camps and football practices and I have been working out this summer," Nunez tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I have been to camps at Florida and Memphis and a couple of others. "I am going to Auburn this week for their camp," he says, noting he hopes that he will get a scholarship offer from Coach Gene Chizik's Tigers. He says that he had a good time on his last visit to Auburn and is very interested in the Tigers. So far the big lineman has offers from Wisconsin, Southern Miss, Memphis and Jacksonville State. "Recruiting is going real good," he says. "A lot of colleges that haven't offered have talked to me saying they may be offering. Texas, LSU and Alabama's coaches told me that. I missed the Alabama camp because I had to do something that day. Kirby Smart (Alabama assistant) told me was going to offer me at their camp. "I just hate we are at the point in recruiting where the coaches can't call you," he says. "Other than that it is going well and I am pleased with all of the looks I am getting from colleges." A three-sport star who notes that he really likes baseball, Nunez says that he hasn't been able to play that sport this summer because he has been too busy with his football obligations. "I just don't have time with the football workouts," he says. A three-sport athlete at Central who also plays basketball, Nunez says his focus is on football. "I have been working on my closing speed for my senior season," he says. "I am have been doing a lot of technique drills to improve my footwork."
