The Flying Squadron of Highland Home will land at Morgan-Washburn Stadium for a class 2A region 3 battle of the unbeatens. Lanett is coming off wins over 5A Valley (24-21), Reeltown (39-14) and Luverne (14-13). That competition has an overall record of (4-5). ScouthSouth.com talks with coach Ronnie Sikes about the game.

Lanett's head coach had to break away from a show the affable Lamanski Ware (6-2 205) was putting on for coaches and teammates to talk with ScoutSouth.com Wednesday afternoon.

"He has been playing really well," Sikes said of Ware, the All-State tight end and linebacker from 2006. He's had some big hits. Then on offense he's been catching the ball and running. He's just really done an outstanding job for us--made a lot of plays."

Ware recorded 14 tackles in last week's game against Luverne. He was ferocious in 2006 recording 86 tackles and was a part of 10 takeaways while missing three games.

The Panthers were eliminated from the state championships by eventual 2A champ Leroy High School in the third round.
Lanett has another division one prospect in Jawann Brooker (6-0 180). The talented defensive back/wide receiver has a scholarship offer from Jacksonville State and was impressive at Auburn's 7-on-7 summer camp.

Booker had an 80-yard touchdown pass called back last week due to a block in the back well behind the play. He also made the end zone on a 29-yard touchdown pass. He added seven tackles on the other side of the ball as well.

Highland Home also enters the game with a spotless record after posting two lopsided victories and a wild one--3A Calhoun (59-6), Goshen (50-46), and Horseshoe Bend (59-29). Their competition boasts a record of 3-6.

The Flying Squadron has scored a staggering 168 points. Highland Home alternates between a Wing-T and Spread offense and will have Lanett on their toes.

"We've got to be able to run the ball as well as pass the ball," Sikes said were the keys to the game. "We didn't run the ball real well last week, and we were inconsistent passing. We've just to be better at both of those."

Lanett's quarterback is the 6-3, 220-pound senior LaMarcus Wright. He threw for over 1,700 yards in 2006 in the Panthers impressive season (9-4).

"He has around 400 yards passing in three games," Sikes said.

"They (Highland Home) are very athletic, and we can't let them have big plays. We need to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. That's the main thing. Eliminate the big plays and create some turnovers,” Sikes stated.

Sophomore fullback Anthony Evans (5-9, 230) has rushed for around 200 yards, but his value to this team is his outstanding blocking ability.

Lanett will need their defense to continue to step up, but the main thing is the offense needs to keep the ball away from the Squadron's offense lest their defense have their tongues hanging from the chase.

Rebecca's Take: I think Lanett wins, but don't look for a big offensive number. They want slow methodical drives to win this one.
