Opelika standout Jakell Mitchell talks about his visit to Auburn on Wednesday to see the Tigers open…
Mitchell Talks Wisconsin
Active on the recruiting trail in territories that are brand new for the University of Wisconsin, Gary Andersen and his coaching staff have brought a new mindset when it comes to recruiting. One of the positions receiving a lot of attention is the tight ends, which is where the last offer went to Opelika (AL) tight end Jakell Mitchell. "I talked to the Wisconsin coach and he told me that they would love to have me," Mitchell told Badger Nation. "I was very excited to pick up that offer and add another offer. I just want to get as many offers as I can to make a decision." The 6-3, 210-pound Mitchell – an early three-star recruit – already has been offered by Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Rice and Tulane. Wanting to evaluate every school that has offered, Mitchell is considering visiting Madison in the future. "I haven't looked in to it as far as the school, but I haven't had a lot of time to research it with being on so many visits lately," he said. "I have been on the road every weekend and have not got the chance to look more into Wisconsin. I have seen them play on TV before and I think I could fit in there. I feel like tight ends have become more popular, so I feel I could fit anywhere to be honest." Having already visited LSU, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Florida and liked what each school had to offer, Mitchell is thinking about when he plans to narrow down his choices. "I will probably right around before my season starts," Mitchell said. "I am going to narrow things down and start leaning toward one way. At least start thinking about making a decision." While most prospects describe their physical attributes, Mitchell finds his leadership ability his biggest feature. "I just love to play the game," he said. "I think I played a pretty big role on the team by trying to be a leader to the team to spark them when we were down and when you make a play, everybody else just climbs on board. I just feel like when we need something to go this way or that way, that is when that is my time to step in. When we are down, I need to get everybody up and let them know it is okay. We still got this and I'm that type of player."
