Nation's No. 1 WR Prospect Talks Auburn Visit

Preston Williams

Talented wide receiver Preston Williams discusses his visit to Auburn, where the Tigers stand, and more.

Lovejoy, Ga.--The nation's top wide receiver prospect made a visit to Auburn on Friday to check out the Tigers along with two teammates and came away very impressed by what he saw. Currently a Tennessee commitment, big Preston Williams is one of the top receivers to come out of the State of Georgia in several years and following his visit he said the Tigers definitely made an impact on him.

"Auburn is a great place," Williams said. "It's a good place to be. It's my first time visiting and it kind of surprised me. I didn't know what Auburn was, but when I saw Auburn it surprised me."

Visiting along with teammates Montrell Custis and Randy Robinson and spending time with Coach Gus Malzahn and offensive assistants Rhett Lashlee and Dameyune Craig, Williams said he got a good feel for the staff and how it would be to play for them.

"The coaches are relatable," Williams said. "They are players' coaches. After getting to sit down and talk with them and getting to know them better I see that they are really there for you.

"Coach Craig is a good guy," he added. "He's not going to do anything but tell you his plan for you after life and football season. The NFL is ‘not for long', so he wants you to be successful as a young man in life."

Something that stood out to Williams on his visit was having both Craig and Rodney Garner talking to him about playing football for the Tigers. As former players at Auburn both know what it's like to go to school and live in Auburn, something that is important for Williams.

"It's good because knowing that they played here and experienced things there, they're not going to do anything but how they felt playing there," Williams said. "The fact that they are alumni, you should take that seriously because they played there. They can tell you how it feels to be a War Eagle."

While he remains committed to the Vols, Williams is taking a look around to make certain of his decision. That has meant trips to see Alabama, Georgia and Florida in recent weeks. Planning to take his recruiting until signing day with no trips planned other than his official visits in January, Williams said at the moment Auburn is definitely in the mix along with the Vols, Bulldogs and Gators.

"Auburn is definitely in my top four," Williams said. "It's kind of hard right now. They are all about the same. I'm still committed to Tennessee. It's tough, but being a committed guy you just have to stay strong."
